Nude step 6

I did some more work on values and a lot of detail on the ear.

I have continued working around the whole painting darkening values and checking that it is anatomically correct.

Canoes - a quick painting

I did this quick painting while at our art club's open studio yesterday. It isn't my usual style and and I am not very happy with it but it will look OK on a card or small print. :) The photo here is darker than the original. The reference photo is from "jab" on the artist's website "Wetcanvas".

nude step 4

I am continuing to darken the values but I have a long way to go. I'm at the stage where the layers have to be brushed on gently or they lift the ones underneath. Once everything is wet I can't do any more until it is completely dry again so this is taking longer than usual because I can't go to something else in the painting while waiting.

nude step 3

I managed to get some painting in today and continued to work over the whole painting darkening values and developing shapes.

male step 2

I have started blocking in the first skin tone washes. At this stage I'll look carefully to see if the shadows are deliniating the form I want and maybe lift some highlights before I go farther with the darks. I am working this weekend so it will be a few days before I can do more.

Nude male step 1

I am painting this for our art club's annual show. This year's theme is "Bare Arts" and is going to be all nudes. I am painting this with the same colour scheme as the female semi-nude I painted a few years ago because it will probably hang on my wall beside her when the show is over. For that reason as well, it will be very tastefully done. :) It is 12 x 16" and I have added the first couple of background washes. I will add warmer brown tones next to warm it up and add some slight variation.

Crabapple Flowers finished

I finished this small one this afternoon. I realized that I have been avoiding painting because the large painting I was working on (Young Gardener) isn't holding my interest so I am putting it away and starting something I will enjoy more. I'll get it started in the next day or two.

Crabapple flowers step 1

I worked on this small painting yesterday and hope to have it finished in one more session. It is from a photo I took of our crabapple tree in bloom this spring. I still have to go a lot darker on the shadows to make them look like they are in bright light but the basic washes are down.

Beaver Skull

I was away at an annual meet of watercolour artists who met on the Wetcanvas website and this year we decided to do still life from life rather than photos. This is my effort from the day. It is 7 x 11 and is from a beaver skull. I was going to work on it some more once I got home but decided to leave it where it was when the day was finished.
I have to work the next three days but after that I can get back to a couple of paintings I'm working on.
