More work all over the paper today strengthening values and colours.

I have been busy for a few days and haven't painted. I finally got a little done today but hope to get a lot more done this weekend. I am figuring out how to get some of the variations inside the shapes and starting to go darker in values.

There is now a little colour just about everywhere on this even though it is a little hard to see. It's amazing how many colours can be seen in this... shades of pinks, purples, smokey colours, and blues. I have to start taking one small area at a time and complete each one next.

I finished the background, added more washes to the shadow on the table, and started the first washes in the tissue paper. The shadow on the table has to be smoothed and lightened still.

I have time to do a couple of small exercises in painting while I am planning a couple of portraits. I took some photos of crumpled tissue paper in sunlight and it will be a challenge to make it look real. I drew it out and put the first wash of mixed grey for the background shadows. I like starting with the darks because I judge the rest of the values from them.

Sick Time - finished

I got this finished a week ahead of it's deadline. I'll look at it again tomorrow to make sure there are no final touches and then frame it. I completely changed the lettering on the cough candies this morning because the perspective was off. It's still not right but I'm not too concerned. I finished the water glass, and then the table was the last thing I worked on. There are quite a few layers of colour to get it dark enough. I was going to put it in a silver frame that I have on hand, but I think I'll spray paint the frame a dark brown first.

Another couple of hours and I finished the cough candies and worked some more on the water glass. I might even be able to finish this tomorrow. Once I get the table darker, it will make all the objects really pop. I'm looking forward to that step.

I finished the last pill bottle and the thermometer in front of it. I also did a little more on the water glass. The cough candies are next and I have masked the white lettering on them.

I did some more work on the water glass and then finished the spoon and started the last pill bottle. No painting tomorrow as I have to work but I hope to get this finished (or at least almost) in the three days off I have after that.

I started by working on the glass of water but that is so finicky and frustrating that I took a break and finished the pill bottle beside it. I went back to the glass for awhile and again took a break and started working on the spoon. It looks like the glass will be the last thing finished in the painting if I have to work on it a bit at a time.

I managed another couple of hours painting this afternoon and the clock is finished. I am back on schedule to get this complete before the deadline. Seven painting days and seven objects left to do (the table counts as 1).

I finished the bottle and I have started on the clock next to it. This photo isn't very good but the next one will be better. I am hoping to do some more on this later today.

I finished the kleenex box and have started on the cough syrup bottle.

I started working on the kleenex box in the background as well as adding another layer of colour to the walls behind it.

This is a painting I am doing for our local art club's annual show. The theme for the show is "distorted perspectives". I came up with the idea while I was sick in bed last week. When you are really ill you don't know what day it is and barely know if it is day or night. The only time you are interested in is how long until you can take your next meds. I set up the still life in the middle of the night and this will end up much darker than it looks so far.

I drew it out and started the first couple of washes just to start blocking things in.

Drinking Buddies Finished

I finally finished this one (unless I see a touch up or two in the next couple of days). I am happy with how it turned out and it makes me smile when I look at it. The shadows on the table are deeper in real life but the photo washes them out.

Step 15

I was finally able to get back to painting today. I am about half finished the green mug and put the first wash on the blue one.

Step 14

I haven't painted in a week due to a bad flu so this is the first day I've had enough energy to work on it again. I only did about an hour but have pretty well finished the gold mug and I have started the first light washes on the middle mug. It is charcoal grey in real life but I am going to change it to a dark grey-green for the sake of the painting. The photo has washed out most of the green colour that is there so far but it will be clearer as it is built up.
